Landaff Town Hall
Present: Brenda Dodge, John Barth, Mary Beaudin, Dale Locke, Deb Erb, Francie Kinney, Joe Wiggett, Sam Natti
Public: Ben Peters, Travis Peters, Molly Culver, Matt Culver, Matt Copithorne, Michelle Beaudin, Toni Butterfield,
Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.
No public input.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Committee members will be notified when documents go in the shared drive.
Discussion ensued about how to present figures to the town. This will be tabled so everyone can review the documents.
Members reviewed MS-22-R and MS-24-R documents that are forms, which go to the Department of Revenue regarding appropriations and revenue. Toni Butterfield guided us through the numbers.
Dale Locke asked if the SAU has found a way to cut costs going forward with a smaller SAU.
Toni stated that they are looking at ways to save money at the school level, i.e. bulk purchases at cheaper rates.
Another handout was given and explained by Toni that had costs broken down various ways. The numbers were ones that were already approved by voters. The numbers addressed options 3, joining the Lisbon Regional District.
Factors that could not be figured are the SAU costs going past next year. SPED costs. Two certified teachers must be at the Blue School, even if it is only a preschool. Outside contracted services numbers are based on current costs.
Looking at three year averages was discussed. Multiple steps would need to be taken for option 3.
A question about trust funds was discussed.
The group came back around to discuss quality of education. Francie suggested that committee members review the quality factors for the next meeting.
Sam asked that we equalize the data regarding quality. Look at what opportunities are available for students.
Deb Erb gave out census data for Landaff and surrounding towns.
Public input:
Matt Culver: Figures show less than $2 per thousand.
Michelle Beaudin: Factors in a quality education are going to be subjective for the most part.
The next meeting is August 12, 2025 at 7 pm.
Meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm.
