The Bath Library Book Club will be discussing “The Ride of Her Life” by Elizabeth Letts on Monday, January 12 at 5:00 pm at the Bath Public Library. The Ride of Her Life is the true story of Annie Wilkins of Minot, Maine and her last-chance horseback ride across America.
In 1954, Annie Wilkins had just lost her farm, and her doctor had given her two years to live. But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean. Rather than take the doctor’s advice and move into the county charity home, she bought a horse, put on her dungarees, called her dog and rode south in mid-November, hoping to beat the snow.
Annie and her companions rode four thousand miles, pushing through blizzards, forging rivers and climbing mountains. Along the way she met ordinary people and celebrities. Her American odyssey inspired an outpouring of neighborliness in a rapidly changing world.
Books may be picked up at the Bath Library; hours are Monday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm; Wednesday 9:00 am to noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm; Thursday and Saturday 9:00 am to noon.
