Mud Season

From the desk of Jeffrey Nute, Road Agent Town of Landaff Highway Department

My annual reminder to all Landaff residents (especially on gravel roads) to check their fuel supply to see that they don’t need to get a delivery during the impending “mud season”.  If you have enough, great!  If you don’t think you do, please reach out to your supplier to ask them to fill you as soon as they have time.  Even if you are on auto delivery, they should honor your request to be filled before, by their calculations, you are due.  This includes heating oil, kerosene, and propane.

Fuel peddlers are the largest cause of damage to soft spring roads.  And, with so many different vendors, occasionally several trucks will travel the same road in a week’s time.  They want to minimize empty miles to refill, so they are often very heavy.  Per NH law, they are exempt from “seasonal weight restrictions”, so they are legally able to beat our roads up.

You can help limit the damage and costs to mitigate muddy, rutted roads, and the abuse of our paved roads to reach your gravel road.  YOU can help yourself and your fellow Landaffians!  Let’s try to get those trucks on the frozen roads before they thaw!

Thanks, everyone!

Jeff
