Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust (ACT) protects 255 Acres of working farmland in Bath for future farmers and local food production
Bath, NH — Just over 255 acres of working farmland in Bath — including hayfields, pastureland, a sugar bush and working forest — are now permanently protected for future farmers and local food production, thanks to the conservation efforts of Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust (ACT) and the Woods family.
Conservation of the 255-acre Woods family farm is a shared effort led by the Woods family who have farmed this land for multiple generations with supporting grants from the USDA-NRCS Agricultural Land Easement program, NH State Conservation Committee Moose Plate Program, Bath Conservation Commission, NH Farm Futures Fund, ACT donors and private foundations.
Dan Woods, the current steward of the farm, together with his mother Patsy and sister Deb, wanted to conserve the farm for future generations saying that “it’s the right thing to do”, protecting it from development and overuse. By conveying an agricultural conservation easement to ACT, the Woods family has secured its permanent farm status while keeping it open as a working landscape.
“This project protects a significant part of the local landscape and community — said Rosalind Page, Executive Director of ACT. “We’re proud to partner with the Woods family and wider community, ensuring this land remains healthy, productive, and available for local food production. By protecting this working farm, the Woods family and ACT are honoring the family legacy of thoughtful land stewardship while safeguarding the local community`s rural nature for generations to come.”
The property also enjoys spectacular views of the White Mountains, has some of the highest ranking of wildlife habitat in the state, and contributes to the protection of local drinking water resources.
The Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust (ACT) works with landowners and community partners to permanently protect land in New Hampshire’s North Country for public benefit. ACT preserves farms, wild and working forests, waterways, places of natural, cultural, and recreational importance. We help build healthy communities by creating opportunities for meaningful connections to the natural world and to each other. Conservation takes community support and we are so grateful to be protecting the lands you love in the North Country.
