Here's a great reason to visit the White Mountain National Forest headquarters in Compton (exit 26, west side of I-93) before August 28.
If you're over 62 and a regular (or occasional) visitor to the White Mountain National Forest or other national forests, parks, or monuments, you should know about this deal. The America The Beautiful pass system provides free admission to national parks, forests, monuments, and recreation areas all over the USA – and for the next month a lifetime senior citizen pass will cost only $10!!! After August 28 the lifetime senior pass will cost $80, or a senior annual pass will sell for $20.
Annual and lifetime Senior Passes provide access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by six federal agencies:
• National Park Service
• US Fish & Wildlife Service
• Bureau of Land Management
• Bureau of Reclamation
• US Forest Service
• US Army Corps of Engineers
The passes cover entrance and standard amenity (day-use) recreation fees and provide discounts on some other fees.
Each Senior Pass admits the pass owner plus three adults, where per-person fees are charged; or owner plus carful where per-car fees are charged. (Children under 16 are always admitted free.) Also, at many sites, the Senior Passes provide the pass owner (only) a discount on Expanded Amenity Fees (such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and guided tours).
Adults younger than 62 can buy a yearly pass for $80 (free for US military; there are a few other special prices as well).
