Florence Webb here, sharing a fact:

We just got written confirmation from the George M. Stevens company (our insurance company) that if the Landaff Fire Department is eliminated, our homeowners insurance will almost triple because we are over five miles from the Lisbon Fire Station. Our price will rise by thousands (okay, we have a big house). If you are five miles by road from Lisbon Town Hall, you may want to ask your insurance company what the effect would be for you. FYI.

  1. The comment listed as from the “Ledger Staff” was from Richard Sagar. Sorry, thought that my name would show, not “Ledger Staff”.

  2. We checked with our agent, Hunkins & Eaton, and got similar information. She didn’t give us an exact quote, but agreed that the rates would go up if the property is more than five miles from the Lisbon Fire Station. Her estimate was that it would increase in the 25% to 33% range, but that it could be more. Additionally, she said that the companies could require that we install an alarm system that would be connected to the fire department, or possibly other expensive equipment.
