Status of Landaff School District Budget
Friends, Family and Neighbors of Landaff:
There have been discussions and rumors circulating around town about the 2019-2020 School budget. As many of you have seen in the paper and the Ledger next Monday February 11th at 7 PM at Town Hall is the Landaff School budget hearing. The Landaff School Board is asking for your attendance at this meeting in order to not only receive your feedback on this budget, but to ensure that you, your friends and your neighbors have the most up-to-date information possible regarding school expenses next year so that everyone can plan for the implications of this budget.
This year the School Board is asking the Selectmen and the Town to raise over $1,225,000 to cover School Budget expenses. This is up over $225,000 from last year. (Approximate numbers, actuals will be provided at meeting)
The School Board is asking for $10,000 to be added to the Special Education Trust. Currently funded at approx. $120,000. However, the Town will be expending up to half of this trust.
The School Board is asking for $10,000 to extend the hours of Pre-School from 8:00-12:00 to a full-time program of, 8:00-4:00. Obviously, the School Board understands this will be an article of contention, but as we will explain on Monday, the town could benefit very much monetarily due to the change in price structure that we are proposing.
The current budget is underfunded. The School Board intends to withdraw from the Special Education Trust to cover this deficit.
Tax rate implications will be discussed at the hearing as well as general projections of the impact to both the June and December tax bills for this year. As always, you can feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. Thank you for your time reading this and I hope to see you at the hearing.
